Awards & Accolades

  • IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award:
    Certificate of Merit in the Services Sector awarded to the Bank in March 2007, in recognition of rapid innovations introduced by the Bank in service quality areas and in capitalizing on knowledge assets.

  • SPJIMR Marketing Impact Awards (SMIA) 2007:
    This award was presented to the Bank by S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research in February 2007, in recognition of the innovative marketing initiatives taken by the Bank.

  • AMITY Leadership Award for Sectoral Excellence in Banking:
    This award was presented to Dr. Anil K. Khandelwal, Chairman & Managing Director of the Bank in March 2007, in recognition of excellence in the areas of leadership and creating value for all stakeholders.

  • SKOCH Challenger Award for Change Management:
    This award conferred on the Chairman and Managing Director of the Bank in March 2007 for infusing new dynamism in the Bank and for introducing various progressive initiatives.

  • The Employer Branding Award 2007:
    This award was given to the Bank by the Star of the Industry Awards Foundation in association with Indiatimes and ITM Business School in January 2007 for excellence in human resources (Managing Health at work).

  • Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI) Awards:
    The Bank won this prestigious "Elite Category Award" for "Excellence in Marketing and Brand Communication" in 2005 in recognition of the Bank’s pioneering re-branding exercise and brand communication.

  • The Bank also won the ABCI awards for the following categories:
    - Best In-house magazine, Special Column (language) – Akshayyam.
    - Annual Report 2005 – 2006.
    - Corporate Website

  • National Training Awards for Innovative Training Practices - Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD):
    The Bank won the commendation / appreciation award in the National Training Awards 2006-2007 instituted by ISTD for its innovative practices in the area of Training and Development.

Key Events

  • 1908: The Bank of Baroda Ltd. set up at Baroda with a paid up capital of Rs.10 lacs by Maharaja Sir. Sayajirao Gaekwad –III of Baroda.
  • 1918: First Branch at Bombay opened.

  • 1937: Bank of Baroda Calcutta Branch opened.

  • 1949: Bank of Baroda Parliament Street Branch opened in New Delhi.

  • 1953: The first two foreign branches opened – one at Mombasa (Kenya) and the other in Kampala (Uganda).

  • 1957: London Branch of Bank of Baroda opened.

  • 1958: Amalgamation of Hind Bank Ltd with Bank of Baroda,

  • 1961: Bank of Baroda takes over New Citizen Bank of India Limited.

  • 1963: Bank of Baroda takes over the Surat Banking Corporation Ltd.

  • 1964: Bank of Baroda becomes the first bank in the country to set up Mobile Branches ( in villages around Baroda, Nadiad and Patan).

  • 1964: Bank of Baroda takes over Umbergaon People’s Bank active in South Gujarat.

  • 1964: Tamil Nadu Central Bank amalgamated with Bank of Baroda.

  • 1965: Bank of Baroda Staff Training College established at Ahmedabad.

  • 1966: Bank of Baroda becomes the first Indian Bank to enter Latin America with the opening of a branch at Georgetown, British Guyana.

  • 1968: Establishment of Central Office of Bank of Baroda at Bombay.

  • 1968: Bank of Baroda establishes Department of Agricultural Finance.

  • 1968: Bank of Baroda spreads itself to all States and Union Territories with the exception of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

  • 1969: -14- major banks nationalized. On nationalization “The Bank of Baroda limited” becomes ‘Bank of Braoda’ – technically a new institution.

  • 1972: Multi Service Agency (MSA) scheme of Bank of Baroda introduced.

  • 1972: Bank of Baroda launches Bank of Baroda (Uganda) Ltd. as a wholly owned subsidiary.

  • 1974: Entry of Bank of Baroda in the United Arab Emirates with two branches – One at Dubai and the other at Abu Dhabi.

  • 1975: Bareilly Corporation Bank Ltd., and Nainital Bank Ltd. become subsidiaries of Bank of Baroda.

  • 1976: Bank of Baroda opens its first Regional Rural Bank (RRB) at Rae Bareli in UP, known as Rae Bareli Keshtriya Gramin Bank.

  • 1976: Farmer’s Service Society scheme launched by Bank of Baroda - the first society formed at Motri in Rajasthan.

  • 1976: Opening of the Brussels Branch in Belgium.

  • 1976: Bank’s 1000th branch opened at Haldwani, Nainital (UP)

  • 1976: Bank of Baroda exceeds the Rs.1000 crore deposit mark.

  • 1977: Gram Vikas Kendra (Village Uplift Centre) scheme launched.

  • 1978: Bank of Baroda New York Branch opened.

  • 1979: Bank of Baroda Victoria (Seychelles Islands) Branch established.

  • 1979: Bank of Baroda opens an offshore banking unit at Nassau in the Bahamas.

  • 1980: Bank of Baroda enters Bahrain.

  • 1980: Bank of Baroda opens Representative Office at Sydney marking the Bank’s debut in Australia.

  • 1981: Bank attains the first rank among all the nationalized banks in terms of total deposits, owned funds, and net profits.

  • 1984: Bank of Baroda Representative Office opens at Hazare, Zimbabwe.

  • 1985: Computerisation and mechanization of operations begins at Bank of Baroda.

  • 1985: Bank of Baroda introduces credit card christened BOBCARD.

  • 1986: Single Window System introduced at a few selected areas.

  • 1987: BOB Visa International Cards introduced.

  • 1987: Bank of Baroda acquires branches of Union Bank of India and Punjab and Sind Bank in the United Kingdom.

  • 1987: Bank of Baroda acquires The Traders Bank Ltd.

  • 1991: Bank of Baroda sets up a wholly owned subsidiary in Kenya known as Bank of Baroda (Kenya) Limited.

  • 1991: Bank of Baroda launches credit cards in Mauritius.

  • 1991: Bank of Baroda housing finance compnny Akshya Avas Nirman Vita Ltd formed.

  • 1992: Bank of Baroda regains its number one position among nationalised banks.

  • 1992: Launch of Bank of Baroda Mutual Fund.

  • 1993: Bank of Baroda retains the number one position.

  • 1996: Launching of the Bank’s first ever public offer of equity shares.

  • 1997: Branch opened at Durban.

  • 1998: Baroda Kisan Credit Card launched.

  • 1998: Bank of Baroda takes over complete control of IBU/International Finance Ltd., Hongkong.

  • 1999: Bank of Baroda promotes its own depository, Central Depository Services Ltd (CDSL) jointly with Bombay Stock Exchange.

  • 1999: Bareilly Corporation Bank Limited merged with Bank of Baroda.

  • 1999: Bank of Baroda branch at Georgetown, Guyana converted into a wholly owned subsidiary.

  • 2000: Bank regains its number one position among the nationalized banks.

  • 2001: Business Transformation Programme launched

  • 2001: Bank of Baroda (Botswana) Ltd. becomes operational

  • 2001: State-of-the-Art Specialised Integrated Treasury Branch (SITB) established at Bombay

  • 2002: Retail Banking department set up.

  • 2002: Infrastructure financing Cell created at Corporate Office.

  • 2002: International Debit Card Project launched in collaboration with VISA international.

  • 2002: Benaras State Bank Ltd. merged with Bank of Baroda,

  • 2002: New Corporate Headquarters at Mumbai - Baroda Corporate Centre (BCC)- opened.

  • 2003: Baroda Swarojgar Vikas Sansthan launched.

  • 2004: South Gujarat Local Area Bank Ltd merged with Bank of Baroda

  • 2004: Bank of Baroda (Tanzania) Ltd. becomes operational.

  • 2005: Contract with Hewlett Packard signed for implementing Core Banking Solution (CBS)

  • 2005: Bank of Baroda's new logo 'The Baroda Sun' unveiled and Rahul Dravid launched as Brand Ambassador.

  • 2005: 201 interconnected ATMs operationalized on a single day (30 June)

  • 2005: Roll out of first pilot branch under Core Banking Solutin (CBS) at Powai Branch, Bombay (19 December)

  • 2006: Bank of Baroda RRBs reorganized to reduce the number from -17- to -6-.

  • 2006: Overseas Branches in UAE brought under CBS platform (23 August)

  • 2007: CBS Branches cross 1000 mark.

  • 2007: Global Customer base crosses 29 million.
